SSS bars House of Reps member from travelling to US

Information reaching NAIJ.com has it that a member of the House of Representatives, Sunday Karim, has been prevented by the State Security Service (SSS) from boarding a flight at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Premium Times reports that the lawmaker representing Yagba East and West federal constituency in Kogi state personally called to disclose that he was barred from travelling to the United States.

He said he was being cleared to travel by Air France when the security agents suddenly seized his passport

The PDP lawmaker said the flight was already boarding and that his luggage had been checked before the action of the security officials.
He said he did not know what he had done to warrant such a treatment from the officials of the SSS.
It is not known if the lawmaker is involved in the budget padding scandal currently rocking the House of Representatives and for which some members are being investigated.

Prior to the budget padding scandal, the US had alleged that some lawmakers, who were in the US for training, ended up sexually harassing some female citizens of the country.
Though the latter allegation could not be proven by the US, analysts had said then, that it had dented the image of the National Assembly.
The SSS had not commented on the development which was still ongoing as at press time.
